The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
The Haunting of Hill House is a series of supernatural terror, one that moves you from start to finish. Created by Mike Flanagan, it was produced by Amblin Television and Paramount Television for Netflix.
The plot is based on the 1959 novel of the same name by writer Shirley Jackson. Netflix made available in October 2020 the second season of the miniseries, but now with another name The Haunting of Bly Mansion.

Dark is an award-winning German drama, thriller, and science fiction web series, created by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese and voted in a popular vote on the Rotten Tomatoes website as the best original Netflix series. The series takes place in the city of Winden, Germany, which is impacted by the disappearance of a child, who exposes the secrets and hidden connections between four local families, as they slowly unravel a sinister conspiracy of time travel spanning several generations. Throughout the series, Dark explores the existential implications of time and its effects on human nature.
It is Netflix’s first original German series, having premiered its first full season on December 1, 2017. After positive reviews, the series was renewed for a second season that was released on June 21, 2019. In the launch trailer of the second season, the series was announced as “a story told in three cycles” – the end of which occurred in its third and final season, which was released on June 27, 2020.
Ratched is a suspense drama series that tells the story of the origin of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched. In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to look for a job in an important psychiatric hospital, where new and disturbing experiments began in the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and when she begins to infiltrate the mental health system and the people within it, Mildred’s elegant exterior hides a growing darkness that has long been burning inside, revealing that real monsters are made, not born.
Created by Evan Romansky and developed by Ryan Murphy, the series stars Sarah Paulson as the lead role and debuted on Netflix on September 18, 2020.
Marianne is Netflix’s French horror series about a troubled writer returning to her hometown to take on the evil witch she had created. It had once wreaked havoc upon the people she loved and threatened to do the same once again if she did not return.
French horror is known for having some disturbing imagery and well-done scares, and Marianne is no different. While there are cheesy transitions, the scares and storyline make it worth it. It’s a unique take on horror and witches and some of the imagery used will be burned into your brain forever.
Scream (also known as Scream: The TV Series) is an American anthology slasher television series developed by Jill Blotevogel, Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie for MTV and Brett Matthews for VH1. It is based on the slasher film series of the same name created by Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven.
The series is produced by Dimension Television and MTV Production Development, and was formerly filmed in Louisiana, in locations such as Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Blotevogel and Jaime Paglia originally served as showrunners during the first season before being replaced by Michael Gans and Richard Register in the second season, because of creative differences.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018)
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is an American supernatural horror television series developed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa for Netflix, based on the Archie comic book series of the same name. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, in association with Berlanti Productions and Archie Comics. Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti serve as executive producers, alongside Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater, and Lee Toland Krieger.
The series is centered on the Archie Comics character Sabrina Spellman, portrayed by Kiernan Shipka, and also stars Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Jaz Sinclair, Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Lachlan Watson, Gavin Leatherwood, Richard Coyle, and Miranda Otto. Originally in development during September 2017 at The CW, the series was intended to be a companion series to Riverdale; however, in December 2017, the project was moved to Netflix with a straight-to-series order, consisting of twenty episodes. Filming took place in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Ghoul is an Indian horror web television miniseries based on the Arab folklore monster ghoul, and the second Netflix original from India, after Sacred Games. The series is written and directed by Patrick Graham and jointly produced by Jason Blum, Anurag Kashyap, Ryan Turek, Vikramaditya Motwane, Michael Hogan, Kilian Kerwin, John Penotti and Suraj Gohill under their respective banners Blumhouse Productions, Phantom Films and Ivanhoe Pictures.
The story is set in India in a dystopian future where fascism is at its top, and the story’s main plot is the interrogation of a dreaded terrorist Ali Saeed in a secret government internment camp that ignites a series of horrifying and supernatural events in the aftermath. Radhika Apte plays the main character Nida Rahim supported by Manav Kaul, Ratnabali Bhattacharjee, S. M. Zaheer, Mahesh Balraj, Rohit Pathak and Mallhar Goenka in prominent roles.
Stranger Things (2016)
Stranger Things is an American science fiction horror streaming television series created by the Duffer Brothers and released on Netflix. The twins serve as showrunners and are executive producers along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. The series premiered on Netflix on July 15, 2016. Set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the first season focuses on the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy amid supernatural events occurring around the town, including the appearance of a girl with psychokinetic abilities. The series stars an ensemble cast including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Cara Buono and Dacre Montgomery.
The Duffer Brothers developed the series as a mix of investigative drama alongside supernatural elements portrayed with horror, science fiction and childlike sensibilities. Setting the series in the 1980s, the Duffer Brothers infused references to the pop culture of that decade while several themes and directorial aspects were inspired primarily by the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, and Stephen King, as well as anime and video games. They also took inspiration from strange experiments that took place during the Cold War and real world conspiracy theories involving secret government experiments.
Stranger Things has attracted record viewership on Netflix and has a broad, active, and international fan base. The series has received critical acclaim for its characterization, pacing, atmosphere, acting, soundtrack, directing, writing, and homages to 1980s films.
Mindhunter is an American psychological crime thriller television series created by Joe Penhall, based on the true-crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit written by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. The series is executive produced by Penhall, David Fincher, and Charlize Theron among others, and debuted worldwide on Netflix on October 13, 2017. Netflix released the second season on August 16, 2019.
Mindhunter revolves around FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), along with psychologist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv), who operates the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit within the Training Division at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. They interview imprisoned serial killers to understand how they think, with the hope of applying this knowledge to solve ongoing cases.
Season one is set in 1977 to 1980, in the early days of criminal psychology and criminal profiling at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Notorious serial killer Edmund Kemper (Cameron Britton) has a recurring role in this season as he assists Ford and Tench in understanding how a serial killer’s mind works.
Chambers centers around a teenager that receives a heart transplant and begins to take on the traits of the donor, some dangerous and sinister. Chambers is full of twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat.
It is thrilling and suspenseful, and you’ll be able to binge it all without being scared of the dark afterward. If you’re a fan of stories that give you a creepy and unnerving feeling, this is the show for you.
Hemlock Grove (2013)
Hemlock Grove is a horror series that pushes the envelope with “gross-out” horror, which makes sense as its producer was the controversial Eli Roth. Formed around a series of brutal murder mysteries and an unlikely friendship, Hemlock Grove is full of surprises.
Various mythological and famous monsters show up throughout the series, which is exciting for any fan of classic horror. While gruesome at times, the series utilizes gore and shock value to freak its viewers out and leave you with more questions than answers.
Kingdom is a South Korean horror series by Netflix that has garnered positive reviews from those that have watched it. Set during the 1500s, Kingdom follows a prince as he tries to save his kingdom from a mysterious plague that raises people from the dead.
With political subtext at the center of this zombie apocalypse, the series gives you a lot to think about while keeping you on the edge of your seat. The gore and carnage in the series are heavy, and, if you live in fear of the apocalypse, Kingdom really hits home and will freak you out.
The Order (2019)
The Order is a Canadian-American horror drama streaming television series created by Dennis Heaton and written by Heaton, Shelley Eriksen, Rachel Langer, Jennica Harper, Penny Gummerson, and Jason Filiatrault. The series premiered on Netflix on March 7, 2019. The series stars Jake Manley, Sarah Grey, Matt Frewer, Sam Trammell, Katharine Isabelle, and Max Martini. The first season received positive reviews upon its release. In March 2019, it was announced that the series was renewed for a 10-episode second season that was released on June 18, 2020.
The Order follows college student Jack Morton as he joins the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose, a secret society that teaches and practices magic. As Jack goes deeper into the organization’s history, he uncovers dark family secrets and an underground battle between werewolves and the magical dark arts.
