The initiative is for “Portuguese Music To Enjoy Its Own” – an audiovisual collection – and had the objective, in the first edition, “to choose a place outside the big urban centers, to invite people to go there, bringing each one the food, and his musical instrument and share the two things: music and food. ”
It considers the organization, in a statement sent to the newsrooms, that the “result was excellent“. In a village of 300 inhabitants, more than 800 people joined that sang and danced.
The main focus of this project is to “always remind ourselves that it is urgent to document, record and reuse fragments of a people’s memory, and with that it is possible to create another social model, which is what picnics propose: to be together, to share a space with each other, where they can be whatever they want and to play and sing whatever they want, without stages or sound system, musical or social hierarchies. The important thing is to share and listen“.
The mentor and director of this project is Tiago Pereira, a radio and visualise. He has also become “an activist, advocate of collective memory and oral tradition, making films, documentary series, radio programs, music programming and events on the subject of popular culture“, can still be read.
