The jury of the 19th International Film Festival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, decided to deliver the gold ‘Lady Harimaguada’ prize to the film ‘A Portuguesa’, by Rita Azevedo, was announced today.
“The rigour, lucidity and sensitivity of the author to bring Classicism and modernity together in a historical chronicle” were the main highlights pointed out by the jury of the awards.
The second place was given to the Chinese film “The Fragile House“, by Lin Zi.
Of this feature film, the jury emphasized “the generational portrait of a family that, in addition to any convention, captures the tensions and alienations of contemporary China by inventing a singular and fragmented cinematic language about the spatial dimension of the plan.”
The International Film Festival of Las Palmas also gave a special mention to the film ‘Mother I am Suffocating. This is my Last Film about You ‘, by Lemohang Jeremiah Moesse.
Another of the titles honoured in this award was the French production ‘Gracias a Dios’, by François Ozon, which gave the protagonists Melvil Poupaud, Denis Ménochet and Swann Arlaud the ‘ex aequo’ award for best actor.
Snezana Bogdanovich, for her performance in Miroslav Terzi’s Stitches, and for Zita Hanrot for her work on the French film ‘Paul Sánchez est revenue’, by Patrícia Mazury.
The feature film ‘Stitches’ also received the Audience Award.
In the short-films category, the winner was the work of Emmanuel Marre, ‘D’un Château l’autre’.
The jury also decided to deliver a special mention to ‘Blessed Land’, by director Pham Ngoc Lan.
