In national premiere, the show “A Varanda” will be on stage, from 25 to 29 March, in the Casino Estoril Auditorium. With text by Henrique Félix and staging by Sérgio Moura Afonso, and includes Ângela Pinto, Rui Luís Brás and Maria Curado Ribeiro in its cast.
“A Varanda” is a theatrical text that discusses the themes of role reversal, mother caregiver-child caregiver and some aspects of loneliness. Does the word loneliness have the same meaning throughout our lives? Are we prepared to deal with the situation of having to take care of our parents? How to manage the anguish created by the responsibility of taking care of parents, when the possibility of putting them in an institution is not considered? The three characters, throughout the text, reveal their true feelings regarding the situation they are in.
The choice of this text by the Reversible Chapter is due to the fact that it addresses one of the current problems of our society, the role of informal caregivers. Most of them are close family members, who have no alternative but to give up their professional lives and often personal ones, to dedicate themselves to the task of caregivers.
