Nobel laureate and former Vice President of the United States, Al Gore, is the keynote speaker at the Climate Change Leadership Port conference that will take place March 5-7, 2019.
According to a statement released today, “this event aims to give continuity to the conference held this July, in which the keynote speaker was former President Barack Obama,” this time focused on the challenges that climate change poses to the global industry of wine.
“With Nobel Prize winner and former US Vice President Al Gore as the keynote speaker, the international Climate Change Leadership Conference – Solutions for the Wine Industry will be a forum where the industry can discuss and share personal experiences and practical short- and long-term solutions time to mitigate the impacts of a changing climate, “the statement said.
The conference, which aims to bring together some 700 delegates from more than 50 countries, will allow all sectors of the wine industry to work together to ensure a secure and sustainable future, better understanding the role of human action in the changes climate change and reducing the collective impact.
“Climate change is definitely affecting the producing regions, which are very vulnerable and exposed to changes in climate patterns, with significant production losses,” the statement said.
“As growers of grapes, we are especially sensitive and vulnerable to the multiple impacts of an increasingly unpredictable climate.” Violent storms cause erosion and flooding, unstable air can cause destructive hail, and prolonged drought weakens our vines, But these effects can be diminished if everyone does their part, “the organizers of the conference stress.

The event takes place between March 5 and 7, 2019, at the Customs Conference Center and at the Coliseu do Porto.
Climate Change Leadership Porto – Solutions for the Wine Industry Porto 2019 will also have an exhibition area where sponsors and exhibitors will be able to expose their products and services, as well as initiatives to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
