Alexandra Lucas Coelho wins Grand Prize for Travel Literature
The jury also included the president of the Grand Council of the National Cultural Council, Guilherme d’Oliveira Martins, professor at the University of Porto Fernando Batista and professor at the University of Minho Isabel Cristina Mateus.
With ‘Cinco Voltas na Bahia and Um Beijo para Caetano Veloso‘, Alexandra Lucas Coelho intended to answer a challenge from musician Caetano Veloso: dedicate an entire book to Bahia, the State, the city of Salvador and the land where the Brazilian musician was born, Santo Amaro da Purificação.
This book closes a Luso-Brazilian trilogy by Alexandra Lucas Coelho on Brazil, also composed by ‘Vai, Brasil‘ (2013) and ‘Deus-Dará‘ (2016).
This is the 3rd edition of the Maria Ondina Braga Travel Literature Grand Prize, instituted by APE with the sponsorship of the Braga City Council and the award ceremony will be announced in due course.
In 2018, the winner of this award was Afonso Cruz with the work ‘Jalan, Jalan‘, and in 2017, Paulo Moura with ‘Extremo Ocidental – Uma Viagem de Moto Pela Costa Ocidental Portuguesa, de Caminha a Monte Gordo‘.
