“All over the world, women’s rights are under attack”
UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that the rights of women are falling in the world and urged the member states of the organization not to give in this matter.
“Around the world, women’s rights are under attack,” António Guterres lamented at the opening of the UN’s 12-day annual session on women’s condition, in which around 9,000 women participate, adding that “the retreat is profound and omnipresent. ”
“Even those governments that stand firm (the rights of women) cannot turn their words into acts that can make a difference,” said the UN Secretary-General, recalling – not to mention countries – political programs of austerity, populist and nationalists.
António Guterres also drew attention to the “harassment” on the Internet suffered by many women, the rise of feminicide in some countries and the elimination of legal protections against domestic violence or female genital mutilation.
