The rural environment, along the banks of the river Coura, in a “perfect connection” with the nature of Paredes de Coura and the “alternative” poster make the festival that today began in that village of Alto Minho a “brutal” event.
“I love it, the environment, the people, the kind of music, it’s sick,” says João Martins.
He is dressed in yellow and is the first in line waiting for the doors to open for the first day of the festival. The sweater, soaked, marks the intense heat that is felt on the fluvial beach of Taboão.
João Martins, 25, from Porto, has been waiting for more than an hour for the entrance to the festival grounds, “anxious” to attend the concerts that brought him, for the fourth time, to Paredes de Coura: the Australians King Gizzard and the Arcade Fire .
Younger, Clara, is also among the first in the queue that thickens under a torrid sun. Nothing you can not stand in the one you chose as your “second home.”
“Being in Paredes de Coura, at the festival, is like a kind of second home, being with different people and ready to meet new people,” explained the young woman from Porto.
He chose King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Marlon Williams and Skepta as “favorite” names on a “very good” poster.
It was not until 18:00 when the doors opened and the green enclosure on the fluvial beach of Taboão was filled with people, including Miguel and Joana, who marked the “premiere” in Paredes de Coura.
The couple of lovers of Oliveira de Azeméis confirmed the “reports of a relaxed, alternative and young atmosphere”, transmitted by friends who regularly attend the festival.
The poster, especially the Arcade Fire and King Gizzard, consolidates a “win bet”.
“Here we are in contact with nature. We have already gone to other festivals, but here the music feels different,” said Miguel Teixeira.
The proximity of Paredes de Coura, in the district of Viana, to Galicia brought from Ourense the couple Jesus and Paula. Two years ago they went to Alto Minho to “feel a perfect connection between nature and music”.
“It’s perfect, a very good poster, a magnificent scenery, the river and the surroundings,” they said, adding, “And it’s so close, just an hour’s drive away.”
King Blizzard and Nuno Lopes are the highlights of the first night of concerts, in an edition in which the organization expects to receive, until Saturday, about 100 thousand festivals.
The 26th edition of the Paredes de Coura festival continues until Saturday with dozens of artists ranging from the Russian collective Pussy Riot to the British Skepta, going through Arcade Fire, Slowdive and … Dead, among many others.
