André Pires joins 21st Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix

The Portuguese driver André Pires will leave the 21st place of the starting grid for the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, which will take place on Saturday.

The youngster from Vila Pouca de Aguiar finished today’s 2nd qualifying race at 2.33.841 minutes, 9.937 seconds after the winner, British Peter Hickman, who finished second in last year’s race.

Veteran Michael Rutter and Martin Jessopp, also British, have secured second and third places in qualifying.

Last year, André Pires abandoned the race due to a malfunction in the engine.

From outside was Raul Torras, the Spanish rider who got off on Thursday during the training. The rookie in Macau fell on the curve ‘Mandarin Oriental’, one of the fastest areas of the circuit city of the territory.

In a statement, his team said that the driver did not suffer fractures and appears to be free of danger.

The Grand Prix is the largest sports event organized in the Chinese Special Administrative Region and one of the oldest car races in the world.
