Blessed Bartholomew of the Martyrs entered the catalogue of Saints of the Church by Pope Francis. The announcement was already posted on the Vatican website.
The decision was taken yesterday during the hearing with Angelo Becciu, Prefect of the Congregation for the Cause of Saints, according to the Diocese of Braga
“During the Audience, the Supreme Pontiff approved the favourable votes of the Eminent and Excellency members of the Congregation and extended the liturgical service in honour of Beatified Bartholomew of the Martyrs to the Universal Church of the Order of Friars Preachers of the Archbishopric of Braga”
Bartholomew of the Martyrs who was born in Lisbon on May 3, 1514, would come to his death on July 16, 1590, in the city of Viana do Castelo.
Jorge Ortiga, the current archbishop of Braga, in 2015 gave Pope Francisco a dossier documented the life of this Blessed with the request of “canonization equipollent”, that is, canonization that dispenses with the existence of miracles.
