Architects celebrate World Day today with prize, congress and exhibitions

The Order of Architects today celebrates World Architecture Day with the announcement of the Fernando Távora Prize, and extends the celebrations with a program that includes a congress, exhibitions and conferences throughout October.

According to the schedule announced, the commemorations of the date begin with the announcement of the winner of the 14th edition of the Fernando Távora Prize and the conference of the winner of the 13th edition, last year, the architect Isa Clara Neves.

Announcement and conference will take place today, at 10:00 pm, in the noble hall of the Municipality of Matosinhos, organized by the Northern Regional Section of the Order of Architects with the Municipality of Matosinhos and the House of Architecture.

The public announcement of the constitution of the jury and the opening of the 15th edition of the Fernando Távora Prize will also be made.

On Tuesday, he opens the exhibition “Memento / Momento”, about the architect Viana de Lima, in the gallery of the national headquarters of the Order of Architects, in Lisbon, until October 30, with the organization of the Order of Architects and Chamber Municipal of Esposende.

“The Architecture Congress, 1948 – 2018” is the meeting scheduled for October 11, at 10:00 am, at the Forte de Sacavém Auditorium in Lisbon, organized by the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage and the support of the Order of Architects.

Another exhibition, “The History of the House”, will be inaugurated on October 17, at 7:00 pm, in the gallery of the national headquarters of the Order of Architects, in Lisbon.

The 15th Congress of Architects, under the theme “The Architectural and Landscape Heritage”, will be held on 25, 26 and 27 October at the Arade Congress Center in Lagoa, Algarve, organized by the Order of Architects and the support of the Municipality of Lagoa.

In the same space, integrated in the congress, will be the exhibitions on the 20 years of the Order of Architects and on the “Architects Journal”.

A conference of the Spanish architect Emilio Tuñon, awarded in 2017 with the Spanish Architecture Prize, under the theme “The Museum and the Royal Collections, Time as building material”, will be held on October 25 at 7:30 p.m. even a congress center in the Algarve.

In the same place, will take place the ceremony of awarding the title of Honorary Member of the Order of Architects to the Superior Council of the Colleges of Architects of Spain, on October 26.

The International Union of Architects (UIA) celebrates World Architecture Day on the first Monday of October every year.

In 2018, the theme proposed is “Architecture … for a Better World”, and the image used at the international level is written by two Portuguese artists, Ana Rute Costa and designer Ruben Duarte, winners of the UIA contest, about the organization’s 70th anniversary.
