Are you 18 years old? You can apply for an interrail trip across Europe

The second phase of the DiscoverEU competition opens on Thursday 29th, giving 18-year-olds who want to spend a month travelling and discovering Europe next summer to apply for a free travel pass until December 11.

The European Commission has announced that it has another 12,000 interrail passes to offer. Following the initiative launched in June this year, Brussels again gives young Europeans the opportunity to grab their backpack and learn about their surroundings.

In the first phase 15 thousand young people were able to meet and travel throughout Europe and, according to the European Commission, the goal is “to create new opportunities to discover the riches of the continent’s cultural heritage, to meet other people, to learn from other cultures and to experience what, in Europe, unites us. ”

Who can apply?

All citizens born in the EU between 1 January and 31 December 2000.

How can they do it?

Those interested in participating can register through the European Youth Portal where they will have to register and communicate their travel plans.

How is the selection made?

Candidates will be selected on the basis of responses to five multiple-choice questions related to European culture and diversity, EU initiatives for young people, the forthcoming elections to the European Parliament, and an additional question on a topic related to this second round.

When and how will the trip be?

The young people chosen will be able to travel between April 15 and October 31, 2019, from 1 to 30 days and will be able to travel alone or in groups of five at the most (all 18). As a general rule, the route will be by train.

“However, in order to ensure wide access across the continent, participants can also use alternative modes of transport, such as bus, ferry or, exceptionally, aeroplane. islands or remote areas that are part of the EU will also be able to participate, “they explain.

The results are known in January 2019.
