Arte Macau, an “international festival” that aims to transform the city into an “art gallery“, opens on June 6, with more than 30 events until October, was announced today.
In all, 10 “big” shows and 18 exhibitions are planned, the Cultural Institute (CI) announced in a statement.
In addition to integrating other events already existing in the territory, “Arte Macau” has established partnerships to bring exhibitions to different stages: foreign consulates, hotels and ‘resorts’.
On the inauguration day, the Macau Museum of Art (MAM) hosts the ‘International Art Exhibition’, which brings together ‘works by several operators of integrated tourist resorts’ and other hotel companies.
The exhibition includes “works of painting, ceramics, sculpture, interactive installations and multimedia“, indicated the IC.
In parallel, during that period, the six gaming operators – Galaxy, Melco, MGM, Macau Gaming Company, Sands and Wynn – organize different exhibitions in their hotel spaces.
As for the foreign consulates, the organization confirmed the participation of Japan, Italy, Hungary and Belgium.
The poster also includes outdoor events, “with old and contemporary works of Chinese and foreign artists,” added the IC.
Various events will be presented in phases, including concerts by the Macao Orchestra and the Macao Chinese Orchestra and the International Youth Festivals of Dance, Music and Theater.
The event, a “new tourist product“, was presented by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam, on a recent visit to Lisbon.
For Alexis Tam, Macau has “all the conditions to be a privileged stage of the contemporary arts,” he said at a press conference today.
The 30th Macao Arts Festival, the celebrations of the day of Portugal in June, and the 16th edition of the International Youth Festival of Dance, events already announced, will be integrated into the festival.
