Assad caricature wins World Press Cartoon

Caricaturist duo Javier Carbajo and Sara Rojo won the World Press Cartoon with a caricature of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in this edition of World Press Cartoon, Spain won the majority of prizes.

The winning cartoon won the grand prize of the 14th edition of the World Press Cartoon, which was first presented to a couple of cartoonists.

With a prize of 10,000 euros, the work of the Spanish couple was honoured at the Cultural and Congress Center of Caldas da Rainha, which received the gala of the annual event.

The 2nd prize was for the work “Angela Merkel”, by Joaquín Aldeguer.

The third prize went to “Martin Luther King”, by Cau Gomez.

In the Humor Drawing category, the 1st prize went to Boligán, with the work “Reload”.

The 2nd for “Films in Venice” by André Carrilho.

And the 3rd prize for “Buses”, by Constantin Sunnerberg.

In the Cartoon Editorial category, the 1st prize went to Ramsés Morales, with the design “Cuba Pal Taller”.

The 2nd prize was for “The Cause of Fear”, by Halit Kurtulmus.

And the 3rd prize was for Bulgarian Nikolov Tchavdar, for “America First”.

The international jury that integrated the World Press Cartoon, besides the director Antonio, were the cartoonists Maria Picassó, Óscar Grilo, Cássio Loredano and the designer Manuel Peres.

Participated in the World Press Cartoon 900 works, published in 68 countries by 71 new authors.

279 works were selected by the organization for the exhibition that was inaugurated at the end of the gala and that the Cultural and Congress Center of Caldas da Rainha was open until July 28, with free admission.
