Barbara Timo wins gold medal at Tbilisi Grand Prix

Barbara Timo, 28, started by beating Colombian Yuri Alvear in 54 seconds and Belgian Roxane Taeymans after 2.18 minutes, both for ‘ippon’, the same method she used to beat Alena Prokopenko in the semifinals in just 35 seconds.

Judge Barbara Timo won today the gold medal for the Portuguese national team in the -70 kg category of the Tbilisi Grand Prix when she won the German final Laura Vargas Koch for ‘ippon’.

Barbara Timo, 28, started by beating Colombian Yuri Alvear in 54 seconds and Belgian Roxane Taeymans after 2.18 minutes, both for ‘ippon’, the same method she used to beat Alena Prokopenko in the semifinals in just 35 seconds.

In the fight for the gold medal, the athlete, born in Brazil, who naturalized Portuguese in 2019, beat Koch, after 4.20 minutes of combat, during which she suffered two penalties, less one than the German athlete.
