Benfica was crowned three-time winners of the League Cup on Sunday by beating their eternal rival Sporting in the 5-4 final at the Matosinhos Congress Center Pavilion.
In a truly unsuitable match for the heart, the lions were the first to score through Cardinal, but Benfica tied immediately after Tiago Brito.
But the story of the first part was not yet fully told. Deo made it 2-1 for the lions, but the incarnates did not lower their arms and responded once again, this time after Fernandinho’s own goal.
In the second half, the eagles turned out to be stronger, and scored by André Coelho, Chaguinha and Robinho. The green and white goals were signed by Guitta and Alex Merlim.
Thus, Benfica wins the third League Cup in their history, having made it in 2018 and 2019. Sporting, remains with two, which took in 2016 and 2017.
