The Eagles got the better of Sp. Braga. Pauleta’s goal gave the team the first trophy of the season.
Benfica started with the right foot in the 2019/20 season. The Eagles women’s soccer team beat Sp Braga in Tondela 1-0 this Sunday, winning the Supertaça.
After a very disputed first half, the two teams went to half-time tied, even after Benfica had a glaring opportunity on goal. Darlene could have made it 1-0 but failed to convert a penalty.
Emotions were reserved for the second half and it was soon after 45 seconds that Pauleta scored the only goal of the match. A strong right-footed shot by the Spanish player gave goalkeeper Rute Costa no chance.
Braga tried to respond to the goal conceded, but the expulsion of Rayanne, by the accumulation of yellow, made everything more complicated. Benfica managed to hold the result until the end and after the final whistle made the party because the first trophy of the season was guaranteed in Luz.
