Book Fair begins today, more inclusive and greater than ever

The 89th Lisbon Book Fair opens today in the Eduardo VII Park with a record 328 pavilions in an edition with more green spaces, more sustainable and inclusive.

This year’s edition runs until June 16 and has 25 new participants, 32 new pavilions and 10 editorial marks, which translates into another two thousand square meters of space occupied, mainly in lawns, on the left side of the Alameda do Park.

Other novelties are the increase in “editorial squares”, that is, squares with pavilions of the same editorial group, the opening of the central turf zone, with the creation of lounge areas for public use, and the end of plastic, both in the bags distributed by the publishers, which will be paper, and in the disposable utensils of the restoration, which are biodegradable.

Also in terms of sustainability, in this year’s edition, the entire route between the corridors is lined by recyclable floor, to be used in the next editions, made from 1,800 recycled tires, which replaces the thousand square meters of carpet that every year was placed on the floor.

In an edition that was also designed for people with reduced mobility, wheelchairs and walkers will be available, which will be available to those who need it, in the information pavilion of APEL.

The fair will be more accessible this year as well, thanks to a space for parking and maintenance of bicycles that was created.

With regard to catering, the offer will be more diversified, with eight new options out of a total of 42 available.

Another novelty is the existence of mobile charging points, while the free “Lisbon Book Fair” mobile application for Android and iOS, which already existed and through which the user can access the map and search the programming of the and free WI-FI in the main squares of the venue.

There are also activities for diversified children – such as readings, workshops, and the “Camping with Stories” initiative, with an overnight stay at the Fria Greenhouse -, baby rooms, RefresCão, and the Hora H initiative, which continues with minimum discounts of 50%, in books released more than 18 months ago.

Hour H runs from Monday to Thursday, in the last hour of the fair, that is, between 9:00 pm and 10:00 p.m., thus keeping the closing time in advance, from 11:00 p.m. to 22:00, decided in the previous edition.
