Book tells Portugal’s secret participation in the war in Nigeria

The civil war in Nigeria ran from 1967 to 1970 when Portugal was still living under the orders of the Estado Novo.

‘The Falcons of Biafra’ tells a part of the story that few Portuguese know. However, the fact is that Portugal participated secretly in the civil war in Nigeria.

António Oliveira de Salazar supported the independence of Biafra, an action that is known by few Portuguese.

Such support materialized with the sending of a group of Portuguese aviators to the land to deliver food and medicines to the people of Biafra who was surrounded.

The book, written by Fernando Cavaleiro Ângelo, also tells how PIDE followed the aviators, monitoring all their steps, as was typical of the regime that was currently in force in Portugal.
