Nick Broomfield’s documentary about musician Leonard Cohen marks the opening of the documentary Porto/Post/Doc Festival.
On November 23rd a new edition of the Porto/Post/Doc Festiva film festival begins which will highlight the British director Mike Christie.
The organizing association of the festival that started in Porto in 2014 reveals that the event begins with the screening of ‘Marianne & Leonard: Words Of Love‘, Nick Broomfield‘s documentary about the relationship of Leonard Cohen and one of his muses, Marianne, in Porto Municipal Theater – Rivoli.
In this Porto/Post/Doc Festival edition, which will take place between November 23rd and December 1st, will also premiere three of Mike Christie‘s latest documentaries: ‘Hansa Studios: By The Wall 1976-90‘, about the golden years from one of Berlin’s best-known recording studios, ‘New Order: Decades‘ and ‘Suede: The Insatiable Ones‘, about homonymous bands.
During the festival, which will also have a special focus on Lithuanian director Audrius Stonys, will also be screened ‘Haut Les Filles‘, by François Armanet.
This documentary, about the female figures of French rock music, features Charlotte Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardy and Vanessa Paradis.
Other festival bids announced include David Dietl‘s ‘Berlin Bouncer‘ and ‘Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda‘, by Stephen Nomura Schible.
In the Transmission program, the section of the festival dedicated to showing documentaries around popular music and culture will broadcast, in Portuguese, the movie ‘Batida de Lisboa‘, by Rita Maia and Vasco Viana.
It is a documentary shot on the outskirts of the capital that seeks to make known musicians and producers from different backgrounds – from Angola to Sao Tome, from Cape Verde to Guinea-Bissau.
The Transmission also passes this year in Braga, with the presentation of two sessions at gnration: ‘Batida de Lisboa‘, on 27th November, and ‘New Order: Decades‘.
Porto/Post/Doc is held in various spaces in the city of Porto, namely the Passos Manuel Cinema and the Porto Planetarium.
This year’s edition has the support of the Porto City Council, the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA), the Ministry of Culture, and the Green Wine Region Viticulture Commission (CVRVV – Vinho Verde), among other partners.
