Camané and Mário Laginha confirmed at the Jardins do Marquês Festival
Camané and Mário Laginha – July 6
The year 2020 will be marked by the arrival of a new Festival that promises to add class and sophistication to yet another hot season.
In the first days of July, Jardins do Marquês – Oeiras Valley takes us to the Gardens of the Palace of Marquês de Pombal in Oeiras for a sophisticated experience, designed to awaken all the senses, and focused on the quality of each of the musical proposals.
After the confirmations of Cat Stevens and Lighthouse Family, the next confirmation brings national talent to Oeiras: Camané and Mário Laginha present their “Aqui Está-Sossegado” on July 6th, at the Jardins do Marquês.
Camané & Mário Laginha – With What Voice
Camané and Mário Laginha needs no introduction. From very different musical universes, they found themselves on the disc “Aqui Está-se Sossegado”, one of the best records released in 2019.
But the story of this marriage between fado and piano is much older. It is a case of saying that, in the beginning, it was the voice and the piano; at the beginning of fado, when the song from Lisbon was invited to the aristocratic halls, the accompaniment was done on the piano and not on the guitar. Much later, Camané met with the pianos of Bernardo Sassetti and Mário Laginha.
Together they made the show “Vadios”, with Carlos Bica, and left mouth watering for future collaborations. The years passed by, Camané and Mário Laginha were reunited, namely in the unpublished “Ai Margarida”, composed by Mário on a poem by Álvaro de Campos, until the fado singer launched the challenge to the pianist.
They chose repertoire. They did concerts. And, after the idea was made, the repertoire was shot, the album was recorded: “Aqui Está-Sossegado”. Camané sings, with the voice we know him, with the surrender and elegance that we recognize him; Mário plays, with the talent that we know him, with the versatility and virtuosity that we recognize him.
The result is astonishing, as proven by themes such as “Com Que Voz”, “Não Venhas Tarde” or “Abandono”, classics that take on a new life here. We are facing a piano that serves a voice and a voice that serves a piano – and together they serve the words of some of the greatest Portuguese poets, both classical and contemporary, and the melodies of traditional fado or other inspired composers.
Intuitive in an almost magical way when moving forward and when moving backwards, the right place to put the notes, the right time to involve the voice, Camané and Mário propose an unforgettable moment also live. The design of the concerts of “Aqui está-se sossegado” will feature around two dozen themes, drawn from the fadista canon, the Camané repertoire and the genius of Mário Laginha.
And it is seen that this project is the face of the Jardins do Marquês Festival – Oeiras Valley, a place where you can also be peaceful. The meeting with these two greatest talents of Portuguese music is scheduled for July 6, in the Gardens of the Palace of the Marquis of Pombal in Oeiras.
