Catarina Costa among the champions on the second day of the National Judo Championship

The Olympic Catarina Costa, a judoka who is in an eligible place in qualifying for the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games in the category of -48 kg, was crowned national champion today.

The judoka of Académica de Coimbra was one of the ‘crowned’ on the second day of the national senior judo championship, at the Sports Pavilion of the Colégio da Imaculada Conceição, in Cernache, Coimbra, on the day dedicated to the lighter, absolute and paralympic categories .

In addition to Catarina Costa, national champions Joana Diogo (-52 kg), Wilsa Gomes (-57 kg), Rodrigo Lopes (-60 kg) and Sergiu Oleinic (-66 kg), while Rochele Nunes and Vasco Rompão returned to get on the podium, in the absolute championship.

Nacional was the second official competition for judokas after stopping due to the covid-19 pandemic and after the Kiyoshi Kobayashi International Cup two weeks ago.

By team, Sporting was the winner, with eight medals (four gold, one silver and three bronze), ahead of Benfica, six (two gold, three silver and one bronze) and the Lusophone University of Humanities and Technology, with six (one gold, two silver and three bronze).

In Paralympics, the highest place on the podium was Margarida Mendes (-52 kg), Sérgio Mendes (-60 kg), Miguel Vieira (-66 kg), Djibrilo Iafa (-73 kg), Rúben Gonçalves (-90 kg) and João Dores (+90 kg).
