China plans to launch probe to Mars in July

The country is investing the equivalent of billions of dollars in its space program, including building a space station and sending men to the moon.

The journey between Earth and Mars takes seven months, so the Chinese probe will not reach its destination before 2021. The distance is constantly changing as the planets revolve around the Sun, but it is at least 55 million kilometers.

Called Tianwen, the Chinese mission has three objectives: to place a probe in the orbit of Mars, to land on the red planet, and to put a robot on the surface to carry out analyzes.

China has already carried out a similar operation on the Moon, wherein 2013 it deposited a small remote-controlled rover with wheels and its successor, in January 2019, on the side of the Moon not visible from Earth.
