China wants to build a base on the moon

The project is still vague but the country’s space agency is confident that it can complete it in the next ten years.

After a successful mission to the dark side of the moon, China has more ambitious plans for Earth’s natural satellite and has announced a commitment to build a lunar base over the next ten years.

The news was shared by the head of the Chinese space agency, Zhang Keijan, during the Space Day celebrations in the country by Xinhua agency (via BGR). The plans are still somewhat vague but the base should be built near the south pole of the Moon and take the form of a dedicated research facility.

The purpose of this lunar base is to support missions with the goal of exploring the Solar System. Also note that China is not the only country to express interest in building a lunar base, so it is possible that there may be international collaboration to complete the project.
