The village of Grândola, in the district of Setúbal, will dedicate three days to chocolate, between Friday and Sunday, with a fair that this year also marks the São Martinho.
At the 12th edition of the Chocolate Fair, which takes place at the Grândola Fair and Exhibition Park, there will be plenty of “tempting motives” to visit the Alentejo village on a “sweet” and “full of animation” weekend. according to the municipality, today announced the promoter of the event.
“Every year we have news both in the show and in the sale of chocolate and an itinerant street animation with statues, giant ones and chocolate dummies, puppeteers and circus animation to cheer the visitors,” said Carina Batista, councilwoman of the Chamber of Grândola.
Handmade chocolates, chocolates, fruit and chocolate jams, cakes, liqueurs, crepes and other temptations based on chocolate, produced from north to south of the country, can be found in the more than 60 exhibitors present at the event.
“Every year we try to present different chocolates and mixtures of this delicacy with traditional ingredients from the region and others that are not usual, so whoever visits this fair will embark on a discovery of flavors,” she added.
The municipality invests “about 30 thousand euros” annually to promote one of the most used ingredients in the world, but that “has no tradition” in Grândola, but it is a theme that the municipality says to be “appetizing”.
“It is pleasing to the grown up and to the little ones and as a thematic fair it is already consolidated, with a faithful public and that every year it gains new visitors, precisely, because the chocolate is universal and it appears at a time of the year in which people take advantage to do some Christmas shopping, “he said.
The event will also count on the presence of several chefs, who, during the three days, will dynamize the space of the show cook, where they will be confectioned “authentic delicacies” based on chocolate.
“This year, the ‘show cook’ space will be transferred to the central nave of the venue and we will have some bosses who are residents at the fair, the county’s chiefs of restaurants and, for the first time, the head of the Hotel Sublime Comporta will bring some delicacies, “said the mayor.
In addition to the musical animation, the Chocolate Fair will join the flavors of Saint Martin, on the last day of the contest, with the participation of the associations of the county and a seller of “special” chestnut, the record holder of the Guinness with the statue alluding to Saint Martin.
During the first half of this month, the Gastronomic Week of Chocolate and São Martinho is also taking place in 17 restaurants in the county, where there are plenty of menus where “chocolate, nuts, sweet potatoes and new wine” are attractive.
