Christmas Concert | Porto

Saturday 18:00
Casa da Música | Porto
Tickets: € 20,65 – € 24,40

What if suddenly the orchestra turned into a grand organ with endless records, and it was joined by a real organ and a piano played by four hands? The idea could only come from Camille Saint ‑ Saëns at his creative peak, he who was a piano prodigy boy, the greatest organist of his time and one of Romanticism’s most reputed composers and conductors. In this special Christmas concert, the motto is launched by the American Samuel Barber with a work of moving simplicity created on famous songs alluding to the court. The image of two lost children in the dense forest immediately brings us to the Grimm Brothers’ children’s tale Hänsel und Gretel, which Humperdinck turned into music by crossing popularly inspired melodies with Wagnerian orchestral textures.
