Cine-Teatro de Alportel reopens Saturday with live music

The Cine-Theater of São Brás de Alportel will reopen on Saturday with the screening of three live silent music films, one of which was made by the filmmaker Roberto Nobre, a native of that Algarve village.

In the year that marks the 50th anniversary of his death, the Algarve filmmaker is honored with the performance of the film “Charlotin and Clarinha”, a comedy inspired by Charles Chaplin, shot in Olhão in 1925 but only revealed in 1972 at the Festival of Santarém, informs the municipality of São Brás de Alportel.

The short film will be shown with music by Francisca Cortesão, Mariana Ricardo and Sérgio Nascimento, together with two others: “Enfer” by Henri George-Clouzot (France, 1964), accompanied by Bruno Pernadas, and “It’s All True” by Orson Welles (USA, 1943), musicada by Bruno Pernadas, Margarida Capelo, Pedro Pinto, and Luís Candeias.

After a short period of closure for recovery works, the Cine-Teatro de São Brás de Alportel reopens doors with this show, but the intervention should be resumed soon, for a second phase of work, which will focus on replacing the stage.

Born in São Brás de Alportel in 1903, Roberto Nobre, who died in Lisbon in 1969, published several works related to film criticism and analysis and was also a painter.

Between 1923 and 1925 he performed “Charlotin e Clarinha”, and his works “Horizontes de Cinema” (1939, 1971) and “Singularities of Portuguese Cinema” (1964) stand out in his bibliographic legacy.

The show, which takes place under the Video Lucem – Cine-concertos cycle to discover the Algarve, is part of the 365 Algarve program, a tourism and cultural enhancement program that runs from October to May.

Tickets for the show, which starts at 9:30 pm, are on sale at the Municipal Gallery and, at the same time, at the Cine-Teatro ticket office, starting at 8:30 p.m.

The opening of the room, on December 21, 1952, was due to the union of a group of moviegoers, who joined, created the company Unidos and embarked on the project to build a cinema in São Brás de Alportel.
