City Council of Porto lights 2.3 million Christmas lights on December 1

The City Council of Porto announced today that it will light “more than two million microlights” in 59 city streets, squares and gardens from next December 1st in the context of the festivities of the holiday season.

“Porto dresses up for the holiday season and is illuminated with more than two million LED micro-lamps distributed in 59 streets, squares, gardens and buildings of the city, from December 1st until the day of Kings, on January 6, 2019, “reads today on the official website of the City of Porto.

In addition to the greater number of locations with lighting this year – four more streets than in 2017 – there will also be “a significant increase in the ornamentation of various arteries, and this year a total of 586 decorative elements will be used,” the statement said.

The municipality adds that the choice of sites “took into account not only the flows of the public in the most central areas but also areas with a higher prevalence of traditional commerce”.
