Classic music season in the Paço Ducal of Vila Viçosa opens today  

This year’s classical music concerts season, in the chapel of the Paço Ducal in Vila Viçosa, in the Évora district, opens today and is composed of eight recitals.

According to the promoters, the musical tradition of the House of Bragança goes back to the period of construction of the Paço Ducal, at the beginning of the 16th century, this year’s concert season commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Queen Maria II.

The inaugural concert, titled ‘D. Maria II in the Musical Archive of the Library of the House of Braganza – I ‘, by Rui de Luna (baritone), Pedro Vieira de Almeida (piano), Pedro Santos (accordion) and Marcos Lázaro (violin) , at 9:00 pm, in an initiative of the Casa de Bragança Foundation.

The program of this year foresees for the 31 of May the concert ‘D. Maria II – Short trips’, with the participation of Patrizia Giliberti and Manuel Coelho.

For the 28th of June, the concert ‘Hymns and Marches for D. Maria II of Portugal’, by Pedro Santos (accordion) and João Pedro Silva (saxophone) is planned.

Concerts are also scheduled for the ‘Sarau in honor of D. Maria II’, on 26 July, ‘Chansons d’Amour’, 30 August, ‘Queen Maria II – Musical Heritage’, September 27 and ‘A Música Sacra in the time of D. Maria II ‘, October 25.

The concerts in the Paço Ducal chapel, with free entrance, take place until October, on the last Friday of each month, with the closing scheduled for December 13, with a Christmas concert, all scheduled for 9:00 pm.
