Clothing line made of seaweed turns CO2 into oxygen

The stylist Roya Aghighi decided to create a line of clothes produced by living photosynthetic cells in natural fabrics, which transform carbon dioxide (CO2) into oxygen.

The fashion industry has a large weight in global pollution (10% of global emissions), so the demand for alternatives in the manufacture of clothing has increased. More and more brands launch ecological collections or take on new sustainable goals.

The project, called Biogarmentry, came about through a collaboration with the University of British Colombia (UBC) and Emily Carr University, in Canada.

As it is still in the beginning of development, the clothing has a short life span, on average of one month. However, it is a 100% natural, biodegradable and compostable fabric, and while it is used it is purifying the air.
