Covilhã hosts, on November 3 to 10, another edition of the Theater Festival, whose program has 11 presentations, eight of which are aimed at children and young people.
Texts by authors such as Mark Twain, Alves Redol, Jean-Luc Lagarce and Eduardo De Filippo, groups such as Teatro do Noroeste, Companhia de Teatro de Braga, Mandragora Puppets and the Spanish Tranvía, Oriolo and Fundición Producciones, as well as host , the Theater das Beiras, cross in the program of the Festival Theater of Covilhã.
“There is a continuous concern of the Theater of Beiras in the formation of public and, therefore, the bet on the infant juvenile will be a type of programming that we will not stop doing, while it is possible to work with the choices of the basic education”, said Fernando Sena, director of this professional theater company based in Covilhã, Castelo Branco district, which has been organizing the festival for more than 30 years.
According to Fernando Sena, the response from schools has been “very positive”, the reason why are expected about 700 children in the shows directed to children and youth.
Concerning the choice of the spectacles, the speaker points out that the range of possibilities is quite broad, but that the option takes into account issues such as the fact that the proposals fit the National Reading Plan or convey important teachings.
Recalling that this festival is part of the program that the Theater das Beiras presents every year – “in an act of resistance so that Covilhã can continue to have quality theater” -, Fernando Sena also specified that the program also includes the presentation of three pieces for the adult audience, as well as a music spectacle.
The opening is scheduled for 03, at 9:30 pm, with the presentation of the piece “Diário de Adão e Eva”, a text by Mark Twain, with dramaturgy and staging by Abel Neves, presented by the Theater Company of Braga.
On the 5th, at 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., the play “The Automata”, from the Teatro do Noroeste – Centro Dramático de Viana, will be on stage for the second time.
The play is a show for children, about Fernando de Paços ‘original, with Graeme Pulleyn staging and Chico Pires’ music, which is presented in Covilhã, after the premiere in Viana do Castelo, on the 27th.
Day 06, at 11:00 and 14:30, it will be the turn of the Beiras Theater to present the play “A Mundo Mágico”, from the text “A Mágica da Sementinha” by Alves Redol.
“El primer Concierto” by Spanish Oriolo and Fundición Producciones, a musical comedy show designed for childhood, by Oriol Boixader, will take the stage on the 7th, at 11:00 and at 2:30 p.m.
For the 08th, at 11 am and 2:30 p.m., the play “Casa dos Ventos”, an approach to cultural heritage, designed by Mandrágora Theater and Puppetry, is taking place for the first time at this festival.
On 09/09 at 9:30 pm, Tranvía Teatro, a company from Zaragoza, presents the play “Rules, Uses y Costumbres en la Sociedad Moderna”, a fierce criticism and humorous bum to social hypocrisy, based on the text of the French playwright Jean- Luc Lagarce (who inspired Xavier Dolan’s feature film “It’s Just the End of the World”), according to the presentation of the work.
“From beginning to end,” which is the 100th production of the Teatro das Beiras, about Eduardo De Filippo (Italian playwright who was instrumental in building European dramaturgy of the 20th century, as the company points out). 9:30 p.m.
The closing is scheduled for 23:00 with the performance of the group Anonima Nuvolari, dedicated mainly to the repertoire of the Italian song of the last 50 years, from Renato Carosone to Paolo Conte.
The budget for the festival is around 30 thousand euros.
The tickets for the children’s pieces have a symbolic value of one euro, and the ticket for the remaining pieces costs six euros (subject to 50% discount for members of Teatro das Beiras, over 65 and young people up to 25 years old).
