Juventus defender Cristiano Ronaldo is one of three nominees for 2018/19 Champions League best striker along with Messi and Sadio Mané, UEFA announced today.
The Portuguese international, who scored six goals in nine games in the competition last season, has been honored three times with this trophy in 2007/08, 2016/17 and 2017/18.
In the backward section, Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt, who joined Juventus after ‘shining’ at Ajax, competes with the Reds defensive duo, while Frenchman Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) and German Ter Stegen (FC) Barcelona) are the other guardian candidates of the year at ‘Champions’.
For the best midfielder are nominated, in addition to Henderson, the Danish Christian Eriksen (Tottenham) and the Dutch Frenkie De Jong, who left Ajax and signed for FC Barcelona.
The winners of the awards will be announced on 29 August in Monaco on the occasion of the draw of the 2019/20 group stage of the main continental club competition.
