Cruz Azul, by Portuguese coach Pedro Caixinha, won 2-0 at Queretaro in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the opening tournament of Mexico in soccer.

With goals from Paraguayan Pablo César Aguilar at 16 minutes and the Spaniard Édgar Méndez at 60, the Mexican side were in good shape on the undercard, receiving their opponents at the Azteca stadium on December 2 for the second leg.

In other games of the tie, Monterrey defeated Santos Laguna 1-0, while Toluca played with Club América and Tigres faced Pumas at dawn on Friday.
