Dave Holland, Kenny Barron, and Jonathan Blake

When two compelling jazz figures like Dave Holland and Kenny Barron meet in the studio, one can expect nothing less than sophistication, expressive intensity and almost telepathic communication. Critics have said that one ends the other’s sentences. The first meeting in a duo took place in 2014, with the CD The Art of Conversation and a series of concerts. Two masters with an incredible balance and a sound to stick to the last track. I feel like asking: how come we haven’t heard them play in a duo in a long time? Kenny Barron played with Dizzy Gillespie early in his career and over the years he collaborated with names like Stan Getz and Freddie Hubbard, while Dave Holland gained prominence on Miles Davis’ historic albums – In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew – before playing with Chick Corea, Stan Getz or Sam Rivers, to mention just a few names from an endless list. However, the duo became a trio with the addition of drummer Jonathan Blake, and this tour features the new album released as early as 2020.
