End of nerves and … Sporting returns to be champion of winter

An end worthy of a Classic. With emotions to the skin of the skin and hearts to throb, it was Sporting to take the best in the penalty shoot-out. The lions re-won the League Cup, repeating the feat of last season.

The second trophy of the season is delivered and this time to … Sporting. This Saturday, the Lions beat FC Porto on penalties, after a 1-1 draw in regular time, and re-conquer the League Cup, repeating the feat of last season.

Summary: Sérgio Conceição repeated the recipe he adopted in the semi-final against Benfica and launched Andre Pereira for the attack. Keizer returned Bas Dost to eleven of the lions and could not count on the injured Mathieu. André Pinto replaced French in the axis of the leonine defence.

The ball began to roll and all the polemics, all the ‘barbs’, all the complaints, were on the other side of the four lines. The protagonists were inside the field and they gave everything. The will was great, the motivation too, and every spectator present in the Municipal of Braga saw a lot of intensity in the meeting. Each game was played as if it were the last, which resulted in a very foul game. At the end of the first part were 23 faults committed.

Faults apart, here and there, there were bids that pull the heart of an adept. However, in the first time, they were scarce. Nani and Bruno Fernandes had the opportunity to open the scoring, and André Pereira tried to make a 1-0 header. The three of them failed and the null remained at half-time.

In the second half, FC Porto pulled the gallons and started to beat Sporting to the ropes. The dragons did it to reach the goal, without, nevertheless, to play very attractive soccer. However, the truth is that the green and white were not at some point getting out of their midfield.

The minutes went by and it seemed every time the null remained until the end … until Fernando appeared and also Renan. The Sporting goalkeeper was unable to sustain a shot from Herrera, he defended forwards and Fernando Andrade just entered the match, made it 1-0 in the 80th minute. Party of the supporters portistas who hardly knew what still there.

When falling from the cloth, real nonsense of Óliver Torres. The Spaniard kicked Diaby’s leg in the big portista area and Joao Pinheiro wanted to make sure of the VAR. After reviewing the images, the referee signalled a great penalty and Bas Dost left the leonine fans in ecstasy. The beating of hearts went to the limit, at an end that was unfit for the heart.

The League Cup final had to be decided on penalties and the last one was Sporting. Militão, Hernâni and Felipe failed for the blues and whites and the Lions took the League Cup for the second consecutive time.

As a matter of curiosity, this was the fourth game of the final phase of the competition that Sporting wins on penalties. In 2017/18, in the semi-final and final, the Lions took the best in the penalties, just as in this edition happened against Sp. Braga, and now against FC Porto.
