All restaurants from North to South of mainland Portugal and islands are invited to participate in the 9th edition of the ‘Tejo Gourmet – Tasting and Wine Contest of the Tagus’.
This is a joint initiative of the Regional Wine Commission of the Tejo and the Confraternity of Our Lady of the Tejo, which aims to promote the wines of the Tagus and increase its offer in wine charts. At the same time, it wants to reward and publicize the restaurants with the best harmonizations between their dishes and the nectars of this wine region.
According to the regulation of the 2019 edition of the ‘Tejo Gourmet – Tasting and Wine Contest of the Tejo’, the subscribed restaurants are responsible for the creation of a menu consisting of entree, plate and dessert, and their respective harmonization with certified DOC wines or Regional) in the letter. At the time of registration, the information should be as detailed as possible, with the names of the dishes and, in the case of wines, each reference must be duly identified with the brand, type of wine and year of harvest. During the month of February, each restaurant must have the menu at the disposal of the customers, making, in loco, an allusion to the same and to the Contest.
Regulation, registration form and other information are available on the Confraria website. Applications are accepted until November 30, 2018, and submitted through the email firstname.lastname@example.org. The competition menu, with names of the dishes, technical sheets and the wines of the Tejo that have been chosen to harmonize can be sent until December 10, 2018. The evaluation is made by a jury of 4 to 5 elements, during the next month of February.
The announcement and delivery of the prizes take place on the occasion of the ‘Gala Wines of the Tagus 2019’, to be held at a date and place to be defined. The list consists of the diplomas ‘The Best Restaurant’, ‘Best Traditional Cuisine’, ‘Best Author Cuisine’, ‘Best International Cuisine’, ‘Best House of Snacks’, ‘Revelation’, ‘Best Promotion’ ‘Best Dessert’, ‘Best Dessert’, ‘Best Dessert’, as well as the ‘Golden Diploma’ and the ‘Silver Diploma’.
Created in 2010 by the Wine Commission of the Tejo, the ‘Tejo Gourmet – Tasting and Wine Contest of the Tejo’ began by being a competition of regional scope. In 2014, it began to contemplate the lés-a-lés restaurants of Portugal, including the islands of the Azores and Madeira. This change has contributed to its growth, both in quality and in quantity with regard to the number of participating restaurants.
