Benfica recorded a defeat, on Thursday afternoon, at Shakhtar’s ground (1-2), in a game of the 1st leg of the Europa League round of 16. The eagles have signed a pale display in Ukraine and can thank the fact that the handicap in the tie is no longer extended.
The team coached by Luís Castro was dominating and was almost always on top of the game. Faced with a little daring and very withdrawn Benfica, the Ukrainians came to the advantage with some naturalness, but only after Odysseas had denied a couple of dangerous occasions.
Alan Patrick opened the scoring in Kharkiv on 56 minutes with a mid-range shot. Pizzi (67 ‘), through a penalty, reduced minutes later, but the tie was short-lived on the scoreboard. Kovalenko (72 ‘) again put Shakhtar at an advantage and this time until the end of the game.
