Exhibition brings together works by 54 artists from Portuguese speaking countries

An exhibition with works by 54 Portuguese-speaking artists selected from Portuguese art collections will be inaugurated on Tuesday at the Union of Portuguese Capital Cities (UCCLA) in Lisbon.

The exhibition, titled Frente. Verse. Inverso – Contemporary Art of Portuguese Language Countries in Collections in Portugal ‘, curated by Adelaide Ginga, curator of the National Museum of Contemporary Art – Chiado Museum.

With an opening scheduled for 6:30 pm, the exhibition will be the first “in which, in the same space, works of unusual value of Portuguese museums and collectors are presented,” according to the organization.

Abraão Vicente, Alberto Chissano, Ângela Ferreira, Ângelo de Sousa, António Ole, Bertina Lopes, Caetano Dias, Celestino Mudaulane, Délio Jasse, Eduardo Malé, Fernando Lucano, Gonçalo Mabunda, Eugenia Mussa, Angel Ihosvanny Cisneros, José Cabral, José Maçãs de Carvalho, Kiluandi Kia Henda, Leda Katunda are some of the participating artists.

Also represented are, among others, Malangatana, Mário Macilau, Manuela Jardim, Mauro Pinto, Paulo Jazz, Pedro Paixão, Ricardo Angelico, Rita GT, Rolando Sá Nogueira, Shikani, Thó Simões, Toy Boy (Adalberto Ferreira), Vik Muniz, Xanana Gusmão and Yonamine.

The works come from, among others, the following collections: The Berardo Collection Collection Association, Manuel de Brito Art Center, Caixa Geral de Depósitos Collection, Figueiredo Ribeiro Collection – Abrantes Contemporary Art Center, Lusofonias Collection Casa da Liberdade – Mário Cesariny, Collection of the National Museum of Contemporary Art – Chiado Museum.

The patents also come from the Carlos Gomes private collection, the New Bank Contemporary Photography Collection, the Carmona e Costa Foundation, the Fundação Oriente and the PLMJ Foundation (AM Pereira, Sáragga Leal, Oliveira Martins, Júdice e Associados – Lawyer Society).

‘Front. Verse. Inverso – Contemporary Art of Portuguese Language Countries in Collections in Portugal ‘is shown at the UCCLA gallery, on Avenida da Índia in Lisbon, until November 13.
