FC Porto’s handball team will face the French of Saint-Raphael Var Handball, the finalists of the 2017/18 edition, in the quarterfinals of the EHF Cup, today held the draw held in Vienna, Austria.
FC Porto, who finished Group C undefeated for the six games played, play in France on 20 or 21 April (1st leg) and receive Saint-Raphael Var Handball on 27 or 28 of the same month ( 2nd hand), in the Dragon Box, in Porto.
Saint-Raphael Var Handball, who finished eighth in the French championship, was defeated finalist in the 2017/18 EHF Cup, which the German team at Füchse Berlin won (28-25), and finished fourth to 2016 / 17, being defeated by the Germans of Magdeburg (32-31).
French runners-up in 2015/16, Saint-Raphael Var Handball finished second in Group E of the regular EHF Cup with eight points behind the first-placed Füchse Berliners with 10 points.
The draw also included the ‘fratricidal’ duel between TSV Hannover and Füchse Berlin, holders of the trophy, and the clash between the Danes of Tolstoy Holstebro and the Hungarians of Grundfos Tatabanya KC.
The Germans of THW Kiel, who qualified first in Group D, as FC Porto with victories over the six games, are cleared directly to the semi-finals as an organizing club.
The winners of the quarter-finals qualifiers will qualify for the final four of the EHF Cup, to be held on 18 and 19 May in Kiel.
