‘Festival Literatura em Viagem’ begins today with Artur Santos Silva

The 13th edition of Literature in Journey (LeV) begins today, in the noble hall of the Municipality of Matosinhos, with the inaugural conference of Artur Santos Silva, which starts three days of talks, workshops and book presentations.

According to the programming of the event dedicated to the theme ‘The last trip’, on Saturday, after a translation workshop by Nuno Quintas, the festival starts with a table on ‘Portugal as the last destination’ with Fernando Ribeiro and José Milhazes, moderated by Pedro Vieira.

Throughout Saturday, the Cine-Teatro Constantino Nery will receive names like the British writer Alan Hollinghurst, in conversation with the winner of the Pessoa Award in 2016, Frederico Lourenço, under the moderation of the British journalist Oliver Balch.

Later names like Fernando Dacosta, Fernando Vendrell, Rui Pedro Tendinha, before Silvino Évora, read poems of his own.

On Sunday, Helena Vasconcelos – the only woman in six discussion tables that congregate a total of 18 guests – and Mário Correia speak under the motto of ‘The sky as destiny’, in moderation of Tito Couto.

João Canijo, Rui Tavares, Hélder Gomes, Carlos Fiolhais, Rui Agostinho and Miguel Gonçalves make up the following tables.

On Sunday, at 4:00 p.m., Filipa Melo will conduct a “live interview” with the author of ‘The Hours’, Michael Cunningham.

The inaugural conference will take place today, the same day that LeVzinho will take to the city’s schools the writers Inês Botelho and Raquel Patriarca.

The festival will also host the ‘On My or My Language’ show, held under the Connecting Emerging Literary Artists (CELA) program, which will feature authors and translators Fabio Guidetti, Maud Vanhauwaert, Pedro Viegas, Simone Atangana Bekono and Xénon Cruz.

The festival is being held until Sunday as a playhouse for several authors from Lusophone countries, with the aim of stimulating and promoting theater and dramaturgical production.
