Festival Out.Fest between today and saturday in various spaces of Barreiro

The Out.Fest – Barreiro International Exploratory Music Festival returns, between today and Saturday, to that municipality of Setúbal district, with a poster that includes musicians and bands James Ferraro, Peter Evans, Deaf Kids, and Keith Fullerton Whitman.

This year, the performances are distributed by the Parish Church of Santo André, Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Small Tide Mill, ADAO, SIRB “Os Penicheiros”, Municipal Theater, Municipal Library, and A4 space and Market Square 1st. of May.

The poster highlights a collaboration between the American composer and performing artist Keith Fulleron Whitman and André Gonçalves, Clothilde and Simão Simões.

According to the organization, the musicians are meeting in a “collective creation process, in residence, with public performance” on Saturday.

The poster also includes, among others, the African-Italian collective STILL, led by musician and activist Simone Trabucchi, Spanish harpist Angelica Salvi, a DJ set by Mo Probs, Irish debut Davy Kehoe’s national debut, James Ferraro , trumpeter Peter Evans and Nadah El-Shazly, pioneer of experimental music in Egypt, Alpha Maid, Calhau !, Brazilians Deaf Kids and Portuguese drummer Gabriel Ferrandini with Barreiro’s Camerata Musical.

With 25 to 30 concerts spread across the city of Barreiro, the 16th edition of the festival marks “a continuation of the previous year’s model of bringing experimental music closer to an unskilled audience,” Out.Fest’s artistic director told Lusa. , Rui Pedro Dâmaso, in statements made during the first announcement of the poster.

This edition, marking the 15th anniversary of the festival, reinforces the combination of various genres and characteristic expressions of the initiative, such as jazz, hip hop, classical and electronic music, to celebrate and “make known new artists of experimental music, and deepen the contact between the specialized public and the artists of this musical style “, explained the director.

This is the case of the Lisbon duo Candura, which appeared in 2018, and his first work “/ I”, edited by the American GreySun Records, by the American singer, songwriter and improviser, who explores new musical approaches in an ancestral instrument. as the organ, and duo Yeah You, consisting of father, Gustav Thomas, and daughter, Elvin Brandhi, from northern England, and his investigation of ‘noise’ as dance music.

The Out.Fest – Barreiro’s International Exploratory Music Festival “seeks to reflect what is most significant today in contemporary experimental music, in its many branches – from improvised music to abstract electronics, from free-jazz to noise, to contemporary classical music and the new and unassailable languages ​​that are born every day and enrich the world a little more. ”

The festival is a project of cultural associations Out.Ra and Filho Único, with support from the municipality. General passes cost 25 euros and daily tickets between 10 and 15 euros.
