Festival Violas do Atlântico celebrates its 10th edition on July 1st

The organization informed that the event will be broadcast on the Facebook page of the Viola da Terra Youth Association, starting at 8:30 pm on July 1.

This event foresees a meeting between the viola of 15 strings, played by Bruno Bettencourt, and the viola of 12 strings, that arrives by the hands of Rafael Carvalho.

For this edition, they bring several themes, some of them played together, in a work that is being prepared at a distance and that intends to demonstrate that these violas, even with some differences, complement each other and represent an enormous wealth for the Azorean popular culture.

In a festival that aims to pay homage to the richness of the viola da terra, a traditional string instrument from the Azores also known as the two-heart viola, the two musicians will present the characteristics of the instruments, exploring the physical differences, tuning differences, and different performance techniques.

The 10th edition of Violas do Atlântico also has testimonies from excellent musicians who have gone through other editions of the festival, such as Amadeu Magalhães (viola toeira), Chico Lobo (viola caipira – Brazil), José Barros (viola braguesa) , Pedro Mestre (viola campaniça) and Ricardo Fonseca (viola beiroa).
