Festival Walk & Talk back to the Azores in July
The island of São Miguel will host half a hundred artists, collectives and curators within the framework of the Walk & Talk festival, whose ninth edition runs from July 5 to 20, was announced today by the organization.
The Azores arts festival includes the presentation of dozens of unpublished projects that cross art, dance, performance, architecture, design, cinema and music, and there are art circuits that integrate the presentation of projects in various places of the island, according to a note from the press.
The event also includes artistic residencies and curatorships, exhibitions, performances, concerts, conversations, side events and initiatives that “promote the production and sharing of knowledge with local communities, migrants and visitors to the archipelago.”
Within the framework of the festival, a temporary pavilion signed by the collective Artworks & GA Studio will be built on the Largo de São João, in Ponta Delgada, with a project inspired by the traditional Azorean cloak that ” to the city as the main stage, meeting point and conviviality.”
The new project was selected as part of the first edition of an international architectural competition, which involved 20 invited workshops, and was promoted by Anda & Fala, a cultural association responsible for Walk & Talk. The jury was formed by Mezzo Atelier, a team of architects who created the first pavilion of the festival in 2018, by the regional government of Public Works and Communications of the Government of the Azores and the Lisbon Triennale.
In the exhibition circuit, seven unpublished individual projects are presented simultaneously in five locations in the city of Ponta Delgada, by artists Andreia Santana, Gonçalo Preto, Maria Trabulo, Rita GT, Mónica de Miranda, Miguel C. Tavares and José Alberto Gomes and Diana Vidrascu.
According to the organization, the projects “map the Walk & Talk exhibition circuit, which for the first time will be organized around a curatorial proposal by curator Sérgio Fazenda Rodrigues.”
The festival will open at the Micaelense Theater for the show “At the Still Point of The Turning World” by Joana Gama and Luís Fernandes, with direction and orchestration of José Alberto Gomes, video by Miguel C. Tavares and the special participation of students of the Conservatory Regional of Ponta Delgada.
