Five Portuguese projects are nominated for the European Architecture Prize of the European Union Mies van der Rohe 2019, today an Order of Architects.
The five orders of architectural products were chosen by a jury, an invitation from the Order of Architects, and included a list of nominees for a European prize. Among the nominees, an international choose the finalists and later the winning project.
The Portuguese nominees are the project of the Faculty of Architecture UCL (Belgium), the Aires Mateus studio, the Casa do Rio (Vila Nova de Foz Côa), Francisco Vieira de Campos, the Lisbon Cruise Terminal, Carrilho da Graça , the Botanical Garden of Porto, which includes a rehabilitation of Casa Andresen, Casa Salbert and the Greenhouses of Franz Koepp, Nuno Valentim, Frederico Eça and Margarida Carvalho, and the project Promessa – Casa do Caseiro (Grândola) by Camilo Rebelo, Cristina Chicau and Patrício Guedes.
“The industries selected an architectural production in Portugal in the biennium 2017-2018, contemplating different typologies and territorial framework,” said the jury.
As the technical books were references between the 31 months submitted to the jury.
According to the Order of Architects, the jury also recommended the appointment of Diogo Aguiar for the prize of architect emerging from the work of the temporary pavilion of the Garden of Serralves.
The Mies van der Rohe Union Contemporary Architecture Prize, worth 60,000 euros, was established in 1987 by the European Commission and the Mies van der Rohe Foundation (in Barcelona) and is considered one of the highest prizes in the area of ??architecture.
As special mentions have a prize of 20 thousand euros.
In its first edition, in 1988, the prize was awarded to Álvaro Siza for the project of Banco Borges & Irmão, in Vila do Conde.
