Football returns to German stadiums in May

It is on the 16th of this month that the Bundesliga returns, it will be the first major league to resume games during the coronavirus pandemic.

The German government together with the different states approved the restart of the games, in the Ordinary Assembly of the German Football League (DFL), the return was scheduled for 16th of May. With nine matches to go, fans will have to watch the games on TV, as the games will be behind closed doors, something that did not leave fans very satisfied. With the resumption of the championship also the various betting sites, such as Sports Interaction, will resume the activity which almost stopped during the confinement period.

Sports interaction will be one of the betting sites that with the many possibilities and variants at the level of betting to cover the return of the Bundesliga that ends on June 29, at the moment it is led by Bayern Munich with 55 points, followed by Dortmund and Leipzig with 51 and 50 respectively.

In a statement on the DFL website, that Christian Seifert is chief executive, it can be read that: “At an Extraordinary Assembly of the DFL, held today by video conference, the 36 clubs of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 discussed the resumption of match After the Executive Committee of the DFL yesterday, Wednesday, agreed in principle to continue the season from 15 May, 16 May has now been set as the specific date. The DFL is, therefore, following the wording of the federal and state decision, which says that the return of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 would be acceptable from the second half of May”.

In both leagues, the season will continue from matchday 26. The subsequent matchdays will follow in the order originally planned. The final matchdays of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 are scheduled for 27 and 28 June, respectively. As the scheduling of the matchdays until the end of the season requires an adjustment to the overall schedule, final talks to coordinate this adjustment are currently being held with the DFB.” it can also be read in the DFL site.

Christian Seifert, speaking to the New York Times last Tuesday, said: “The interest (globally) is big. I see reports from across the world that we are the first major league to return.” added also that “This is only possible because we have the privilege to live in a country with one of the most modern health systems in the world”, “the matches will feel different. After the first matchday we will all know why we prefer games with fans,” said Christian Seifert, and  “but that is the framework we have to operate in and I expect the best possible sport within this framework.

Although there is a possibility of a second wave of COVID-19, all players and officials have already been tested in all clubs in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga2, and 10 cases have been detected that have been reported to the competent authorities, yet no results from the second testing phase have yet to be released.

Christian Seifert, Hans-Joachim Watzke and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, club chiefs Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, influential voices in German football, also highlight that the cancellation of the Bundesliga puts at risk, around 56,000 jobs, and the entire industry at risk. Christian Seifert as also assured, in negotiations with televisions, a value around € 280 million, at a time when many clubs fear for their survival.
