Frederico Morais conquers Pro Santa Cruz

Portugal’s Frederico Morais today won the Pro Santa Cruz of the world surfing qualifying circuit (QS) by beating Moroccan Ramzi Boukhiam in the final.

Frederico Morais added 13.60 points (7 and 6.6) to Boukhiam, which totalled 10.34 (4.67 and 5.67), at the Santa Cruz beach in Torres Vedras.

‘Kikas’ became the first Portuguese surfer to win this event, after the triumphs of Japanese Kanoa Igarashi in 2018, Uruguayan Marco Giori in 2017, and Uruguay’s Andy Criere in 2016.

This was the second QS victory for the natural surfer from Cascais, who had already beaten Martinique Pro in 2016, the year he reached the finals of the Hawaiian Pro and the Vans World Cup.

‘Kikas’, who was the first Portuguese to play in a World Cup final in 2017 at Corona Open J-Bay in South Africa, had already reached the decisive heat of the Vans World Cup, also of QS, in 2013.

In Santa Cruz, Vasco Ribeiro finished in the fifth place, losing in the quarterfinals against Brazilian Luel Felipe.
