Frederico Morais receives invitation to Portuguese stage of world circuit

The Portuguese Frederico Morais received a wild-card to compete in the Portuguese stage of the world surfing circuit, the organization announced today, as well as the Hawaiian Alana Blanchard for the women’s race, which returns to Peniche nine years later.

Kikas, sixth in the qualifying ranking, competes again in the 10th and penultimate stage of the circuit, which will be played in Peniche between 18 and 29 October, for the sixth time, and in 2018 did not need an invitation since he was in the elite of the sport.

The best result of the Cascalense surfer at Praia de Supertubos came in 2015, when he was eliminated by the American Brett Simpson in the quarterfinals, finishing the race in fifth place.

In a year of trying to return to the main circuit, Frederico Morais, who won a place for Portugal at the Tokyo2020 Olympics, recently beat Azores Airlines Pro of the qualifying circuit, finished Quiksilver Pro France in 17th place, the same position  had reached at the Corona Open J-Bay in South Africa.

In the other three races as a substitute, the Portuguese was third in Oi Rio Pro in Brazil and was eliminated in recaps (33rd) in Margaret River Pro in Australia and Tahiti Pro Teahupo’o in Polynesia. French

Hawaiian Alana Blanchard, 79th in the qualifying circuit hierarchy, returns to Peniche, where she was in 2009, with an invitation from the organization, in a year in which Portugal also welcomes the ninth and second to last stage of the women’s world, after the interregnum in 2018 and five consecutive years in Cascais.
