Fruit Logistica, a fair dedicated to fruits and vegetables, starts today in Berlin and will count with the presence of 37 national entities, among companies, associations and partners, present through Portugal Fresh.
For the ninth consecutive time, Portugal has joint participation in the event that takes place in the German capital until Friday, with 78 thousand people expected from 130 countries.
According to Portugal Fresh – Association for the promotion of fruit, vegetables and flowers of Portugal, this participation coincides with “a historical moment for the sector“, which is close to reaching 3,000 million euros of turnover, with the 50% of that amount.
In a statement, sent last Friday, the association’s president, Gonçalo Santos Andrade, indicated that Portugal Fresh’s forecasts point to 1,500 million euros of exports in 2018.
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), exports of Portuguese fruit, vegetables and flowers reached 1,372 million euros between January and November 2018, equivalent to a year-on-year increase of 1%.
“This growth is proof of the great competence and persistence of the national companies in the face of the many adversities registered during the difficult agricultural year of 2018. Achieving the achievement of reaching 1,500 million euros at this time is something that fills us with pride,” he added. height, the person in charge.
In turn, between January and November, sales to Germany advanced 1.3%, compared to the same period of 2017, reaching 89.4 million euros.
With the presence at the fair, Portugal intends to strengthen ties with the German market, with regular partners and with buyers from countries such as China, India and Indonesia.
“Our traditional partners, such as Spain, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany and Brazil, will also invest a lot of time in our stand, tasting products and meeting with exporting companies,” said Gonçalo Santos Andrade.
Spain, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany constitute the top5 of the largest national export markets, accounting for 67% of total exports in the sector.
According to Portugal Fresh, the event will be attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Capoulas Santos, and the Portuguese ambassador to Germany, João Mira Gomes.
Among the 37 national participants, there are 22 companies, such as Campotec, Vale da Rosa, Vitacress and Kiwicoop.
In addition to these, nine Portuguese partners will attend the Portuguese stand, such as the Portuguese Agrofood Cluster, as well as six associations, including Refcast (brown) and the National Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Producers’ Organizations.
Portugal Fresh currently has 85 associates representing 25% of the value of the fruit, vegetables and flowers sector.
