Portuguese striker Fu Yu has qualified for the quarter-finals of the table tennis tournament of the II European Games, while Jieni Shao has been sidelined in Minsk.
Fu Yu, eighth in the European ranking, was forced to Hanna Haponova, 24th, by 4-1 with 11-3, 11-5, 11-7, 9-11 and 11-7, and now awaits the definition of opponent for the next round, Tuesday.
Jieni Shao, 33rd in the standings, gave a good fight to the seventh in Europe, the Li Jie Dutchwoman, also of Chinese origin, but ended up losing 4-3.
The Portuguese still had a 2-0 and 3-2 advantage, but allowed the turnaround and gave up on 11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 10-12, 15-13, 5-11 and 7-11.
Marcos Freitas is the fourth best of the Old Continent, but this afternoon will face the second strongest, the experienced German Timo Boll.
