Gastão Elias prepares for the ‘eighth’ tournament of Chennai

Portuguese ninth-seeded Gastão Elias has qualified for the knockout rounds of the Chennai tournament with a two-set win over Australian Blake Ellis in the second round of the Indian challenger circuit.

Gastão Elias, 246th place in the world ranking, only found opposition in the second part by an opponent positioned more than 100 places down in the hierarchy of the ATP in 349th, which was imposed by 6-2 and 7 -6 (7-4), after an hour and 35 minutes of confrontation.

In the last 16 of the Chennai tournament, on a hard floor, the Portuguese player will face the Australian James Duckworth, seventh pre-designated and 241 of the world hierarchy, who today beat Russian Ivan Gakhov also in two sets, for 7-6 (7-2) and 7-5.
